![]() ![]() 14 weeks today and like with the oldest this sound machine will be a part of his room until he longer wants it which was around 2years-old for my oldest.ĭo what you must to help baby and you sleep.Ĭan’t live without our sound machine. With my youngest a plug in machine and projector is constantly on in our room but he only goes in our room at nap and bedtime so he only hears it when it's time to sleep. ![]() turns 3 monday and still plays it at bedtime. he hit the 4 month sleep regression and it became our savior. With my oldest he now uses a 20minute sound machine with projecting lights we got from target. however, the consistent sound in the room at nap and bed time helps drown out the sudden noises while not keeping the room dead pan quiet. because my house has lulls of quiet and then sudden bursts of noise (thanks toddler) it startles baby. the womb is so much louder than a vacuum but it's a consistent loud noise they heard for 9 months. The sound machine helps provide a consistent noise level to help baby relax and stay asleep. And I think doing that isn’t great for your mental health if it feels overwhelming and may accustom baby to very specific routines that are not easy to replicate if you’re not there or end up going on vacation. Sleep schedules and special binkies but only at this time and this many bottles and this many ounces and the white noise machine, and exact bedtime routine…it’s a lot. Anyone who has had more than one kid here knows, it’s easy to go a little overkill and over meticulous with baby #1. I know her situation because we are close and she has done things differently for #2 because she’s feeling much less anxious and it has worked out better for her. Edit: I’m not saying SIL’s case is the same for everybody. Family vacations are really rough on her. It is still a nightmare trying to get her kid to sleep at three years old. My sister-in-law did the noise machines and a blackout tent and special pajamas and all the things. However, mama knows best, and not every kid is the same! You do you! I will advise to be careful. Vacuuming, Everything we could get away with while they were still sleeping tons. Tried to keep the house noisy when baby was sleeping from newborn to prob 6 months. I think that's due to not using the sound machine too early so she didn't become dependent on it. Occasionally she'll nap super long even without the sound machine and we're being loud elsewhere, so it's just a plus for her. Now she can still fall asleep in different places but it's always a much longer nap in her own room with the sound machine than without. However, when she started daycare and having her nap in her crib in her own room at 4.5 months and then overnight there as well at 6 months, we needed the sound machine bc she was much more curious and aware of the other sounds and wanted to investigate. We felt it was good to get her used to napping anywhere and the general noise of others. ![]() Thoughts? Do they really make that much of a difference? I’d love my dude to fall asleep easier and take longer than 15-30 min naps.Įdit: For those of you who use it for naps, do you bring a sound machine to daycare then?īefore 6 months, when co-sleeping in the same room, we didn't use any sound machine, and we also had our LO nap in all kinds of different places (car seat in the car and at restaurants or friends' homes, pack n play in the living room while everyone else went about their day, pack n play in our room, contact nap). What happens when you forget it? What about when they’re older and try going to sleepovers? They say he’ll become reliant on it and that there’s no need when they could get their babies to sleep fine back in the day. They also think sound machines are a crutch and that you don’t want to have to haul it all over. They think it’s ridiculous that we go through the process of closing the blinds and keeping him in his room. Light bright loud rooms - no problem for any of us kids apparently. BUT both my mother and mother-in-law go on and on about how their kids could sleep anywhere. My sister has strongly recommended we get a sound machine to help him fall asleep/stay asleep. What are everyone’s thoughts on sound machine use? We have a 10 week old little boy who is not a fan of napping. ![]()
