It is naturally quite strange since users don’t understand why such an event takes place. You must have seen how the wifi signal strength changes quickly upon walking a few steps towards a specific direction. When the heatmap is finished, it'll be super easy to read - red is the strongest signal, while blue is the weakest.Windows 10 home users often find themselves walking or running between rooms at home in an urge to find the best signal strength. No worries, if you need to pause the process, NetSpot allows you to do that easily. Remember to mark your every new point on the plan, and proceed until you have covered the area. Alternatively, you can sketch a new plan right in NetSpot - use the "Draw it" button or start with the "Sample map".įind a good starting point, like a corner, mark it on the plan, and start taking samples, while moving in a zigzag pattern. If you already have a plan for your area, use the "Load from file" option. Choosing the right type of your area helps you limit the number of samples you need to take, and increase the accuracy of the results. Give your project a name and select its type. Things you'll need to start working on your WiFi heatmap:įirst, install and open NetSpot app, switch to Survey mode and choose the "Start a new survey" option. Repeating a WiFi signal can efficiently boost the range of an existing wireless network. Learn more about how to select the best WiFi channel.Īdd in Access Points: If your space is wired for Ethernet, you can always add another Access Point at any cable termination spot to strengthen the signal.Īdd in a Repeater: Most of the time WiFi routers and APs can be set up as WiFi repeaters. If you discover that your AP uses channel 6 just like some other APs leaking into your space, try switching to a less crowded channel 12. Switch Channels: When according to the WiFi heatmap you are getting a decent coverage, but the transmission speed and the connectivity in general fail, let NetSpot check the statistics on your Access Point and the Access Points that are leaking into the measured space. Also moving the AP up from the floor and positioning antennas vertically (in case of moveable antennas) can change the situation to the better. Is there a concrete wall or a large metal cabinet or a fridge that is blocking the signal from access point? Something like this can be fixed by simply moving the access point further along to the other corner. For example, when the signal is weak off the particular side of the AP, examine the structure of the building in that direction. Move the Access Point: The first thing to try, and the easiest, is moving the access point around. Studying the heat map thoroughly helps you see the weaknesses of your WiFi coverage and gives an idea where to start to fix the issue. Now that you have a WiFi heatmap of your home or office you can take every benefit out of it. Studying the heat map thoroughly helps you see the weaknesses of your WiFi coverage At the very least, create one WiFi heatmap before deploying a new access point or changing the configuration/location and one after. Create multiple WiFi heatmaps: Since WiFi heatmapper tools like NetSpot can create a comprehensive WiFi heatmap in just a couple of minutes, depending on the size of the surveyed area, you shouldn’t hesitate to create multiple WiFi heatmaps so that you have plenty of information upon which to base your decisions. This is especially important when measuring the coverage of a mesh network, which may consist of dozens or even hundreds of wireless mesh nodes talking to one another. Mark all AP locations: It may seem trivial, but experience tells us that people often forget to mark the exact locations of all access points when creating a WiFi heatmap, only to later struggle when interpreting the results. Instead, measure during regular work hours so that you can see what the worst-case situation looks like. If you want to, for example, cover a large office with a strong WiFi signal, it makes little sense to measure after work, when everyone’s at home and there’s far less radio frequency interference. Although tortilla chips are the obvious pairing to this dip, you may want to consider using vegetable sticks or use it as a burrito filling. You can use mild, medium, or hot salsa depending on how spicy you like it. It reminds me very much of the spicy black bean dip they sell at Trader Joes, except this one taste better because of the fresh lime juice that gives it just enough acidic zing. Until then, I have this fast and easy, healthy and oh-so-good, black bean dip recipe for you. I hope to share a little bit of what I have loved about this place in an upcoming post in case other people may be interested in what to eat or what to do in the North Shore. We’ve been staying in Oahu’s North Shore hanging out at the beach every morning through late afternoon eating shaved ice and all the local favorites including shrimp trucks, spam-musabi, and haupia pie. Trust me, I am a horrible travel companion when I feel anxiety driven sadness. Place beans, 1/4 cup of the salsa, garlic and cumin in blender or food processor container cover. Our family flew out the next morning for Spring Break in Hawaii without me feeling fearful or filled with anxiety. Last Friday when the 2 Boston suspects were caught (dead and alive) I remember this sense of relief for the people of Boston. Ingredients: 2 tablespoons olive oil 2 cloves garlic minced 1 jalapeno diced 1/2 yellow onion diced 1 15 ounce can black beans, drained. I’m very thankful to the brave men and women who serve this country to protect its citizens and borders. Feeling an emotional blanket of heaviness, these types of disasters always remind me of 9/11 and the frequency of these types of attacks serves as a constant reminder that we are definitely living in a post 9/11 world. Serve with chips and/or crackers and vegetables.I had intended to post this recipe last week but due to the Boston bombings the last thing I felt like doing was posting anything because frankly I was pretty glued to the news feeling a bit paralyzed from what I was hearing and seeing.Fold in cilantro and top with cilantro leaves.Add more lime juice and salt to taste, plus more water if it’s too thick. It goes great with tortilla chips or as a tasty salsa over chicken, pork and seafood. Combine hydrated soup mix, onion mixture, lime juice and salt. Make this crowd-pleasing black bean dip recipe as mild or spicy as you like.Stir in garlic and garam masala, then remove from heat and let cool slightly. Heat oil in a medium frying pan over medium-high heat. Cover and let sit for at least 10 minutes and up to an hour. Put black bean soup mix in a heatproof bowl.

Resource management and crafting are paramount, as all important stuff is extremely scarce. The rat bites leave you bleeding and dripping blood attracts more rats, so you need to treat any wounds promptly. If you stumble upon cloth and the stick and make a torch, however, you’ll get an efficient and silent rat repellant which, unfortunately, doesn’t last very long. Hand grenades or petrol bombs are super efficient, but the noise will surely attract the big monster. The rats occasionally block the important passages, and the way you deal with them is with the resources you have on hand. You can even try to lure the beast by making noise, hoping it will smash it whilst frantically searching for you.īesides the beast, you will encounter rats, who will not bother you unless you step on them or disturb their feeding. Locked wooden door can be smashed by throwing the brick or the grenade on it, or rolling an explosive barrel next to it and liting it up with a shot. There’s limited room for improvisation, though. Finding the bolt cutters, for example, enables you to cut through chained metal doors which are otherwise inaccessible. The progress in the game follows metroidvaniesque principles, requiring specific devices for opening the way forward. Both devices are buried deep inside the complex network of underground facilities and repurposed ancient Roman tunnels. To flee the bunker, you will need to find explosives and a detonator handle. It’s nice to see Frictional experimenting with the shared universe. The narrative is cleverly tied to Amnesia: Rebirth, but the knowledge of it is not a prerequisite to understanding The Bunker. You’ll learn about the nature of the threat and the rest of the story through letters and diaries scattered around the bunker. Ammo is also scarce, so hiding in the darkness is the only dependable way of surviving the potential close encounter. Although you DO have a weapon here, which is a novelty itself for the Amnesia game, shooting the beast only drives it away for a short time. The beast is clever, unpredictable, attracted to sound, and unkillable. Regarding the main threat, Amnesia: The Bunker borrows heavily from Alien: Isolation. It moves through walls and vent shafts in the manner of a Xenomorph and kills on sight. The survivors are stalked by the fearsome creature that prowls the dusty subterranean maze. The end, however, won’t come due to starvation or asphyxiation. Officers fled the bunker, dynamiting the only exit, condemning the surviving soldiers to death. Suffering from amnesia after a shell shock, Henry finds himself in a strange predicament. The lad in question is Henri Clement, a French infantryman who woke up trapped in an underground bunker complex. Frictional, naturally, added a layer of otherworldly terror on top of it, putting the player in the boots of a recovering soldier battling a supernatural beast. The Great War was a frightening experience for everyone involved, especially for soldiers living and dying in the maze of trenches. Instead, with distinctive posture, exaggerated hand gesticulations and a contrived forgetfulness – his habit of leaving a room, only to return having remembered "just one more thing" became his trademark – Columbo stumbled his way around LA's mansions with the dishevelled air of a confused gardener. And he was the opposite of that in every way. "All the detectives were these hardboiled, emotionless, tough guys. "There was nobody or nothing like Columbo at all before him," Koenig says. He didn't chase women – his devotion to his never-seen but constantly referenced-to wife Mrs Columbo, and the never-ending (no doubt exaggerated) stories about his extended family, presented a man of morals and virtue. In fact, aside from the occasional flashing of his badge – which showed to eagle-eyed fans that Columbo's never-revealed first name was in fact Frank – you'd barely notice he was a policeman at all: there were no shootouts or high-speed car chases, he was hardly seen in the office or at the police station. He didn't carry a gun, and wasn't violent he was squeamish at the sight of blood. He wasn't tall or macho he didn't have a sidekick or squadron. It was clear from the outset that Lieutenant Columbo was the anthesis of a TV cop. "I'd kill to play that cop," Falk told them. They had initially wanted Bing Crosby to play Lt Columbo, but after a semi-retired Crosby decided he preferred the golf course to the TV studio, it gave an opening to Falk who, having come across the script, contacted his casual acquaintances Levinson and Link. Interested in the burgeoning TV movie scene of the late-60s, the pair took Prescription Murder to NBC. Schoolfriends William Link and Richard Levinson, inspired by Porfiry Petrovich in Dostoevsky's Crime and Punishment and the books of GK Chesterton, had already used Lt Columbo on stage with Prescription Murder, a play influenced by the "inverted mystery" format used by Alfred Hitchcock in Dial M for Murder. The history of the character of Lieutenant Columbo actually predates the TV show. It was a drawing-room mystery done backwards with a cop as the lead. "It flipped everything on its head," agrees David Koenig, author of a new book, Shooting Columbo: The Lives and Deaths of TV's Rumpled Detective. "I truly believe that Columbo was a landmark in the entertainment industry," says Jack Horger, producer on the show between 19. The show was syndicated across 44 countries, resulting in some unusual tributes: there is a statue of Columbo in Budapest in Romania, Columbo was so popular that when the show ended, the government asked Falk to video an address to the nation to confirm that it wasn't the regime's strict import restrictions that were responsible for the lack of new episodes. It made a global star of Falk, who won four Emmys and a Golden Globe. The initial 70s run set a gold standard in event television, attracting grand guest stars to play the murderer (Gene Barry, Jack Cassidy, William Shatner, Anne Baxter) and emerging talent to shape its look and feel (Steven Spielberg and Jonathan Demme both directed episodes writer Steven Bochco went on to create the hugely influential Hill Street Blues). But Columbo made a virtue of formula, and with intelligent, detailed scripts and a stellar performance from Falk, it became an unlikely worldwide phenomenon across eight series from 1971-1978, and then again sporadically from 1989-2003. On paper, it was a niche concept that even network executives doubted could work. Columbo's methods often involved elaborate set pieces where traps were set for the murderer ( planting a false address of a suspect knowing the killer would try to frame him asking a man to pretend to be his blind brother to break an alibi) that were dramatic, cathartic finales (even if the charges wouldn't always necessarily stand up in a court of law). It left the rest of the show not as a "whodunnit" in the vein of Agatha Christie, but a "howcatchem", with the unassuming, amiable yet sharp-witted Columbo working to unpick the killer's "perfect" alibi one seemingly insignificant clue at a time – shoelaces, caviar, air conditioning – before bringing down their arrogant conceit with a final piece of incriminating evidence in a thrilling "gotcha!" moment that Falk himself referred to as the "pop". Here was a murder mystery where the murder was no mystery: audiences saw the deadly deed at the start of each episode, invariably carried out by one of LA's rich and famous in an attempt to preserve their esteemed reputation. The US series with Peter Falk in the title role – as the ramshackle, eccentric, cigar-chomping, raincoated LAPD homicide detective Lieutenant Columbo – revolutionised what a cop show could be. Even 50 years since its first season began on 15th September 1971, Columbo remains a TV show like no other. Plus-sized actress Frances Lee waves off any concerns about being typecast, although she has been cast once as a plump woman and once as an actual pig. But I won't lie, I definitely get more excited from the wages I earn from TV and film." But in theatre, you get to create with your fellow cast mates and they shape your portrayal. She is working on 7 Letters, a collection of seven short films to celebrate the nation's 50th jubilee (her segment is directed by local film-maker Tan Pin Pin) and will act in Wild Rice's historical play about Singapore and Malaysia, Another Country, in June.On the difference between screen and stage, Look says: ''TV is solitary. This year, she will shuttle between LA and Singapore to visit her mother and to do projectshere. In the United States, Look has appeared ontelevision dramas such as Bones and NCIS: Los Angeles. I'm a proud Katong Convent girl and wanted to pay tribute to my teachers,'' she adds. ''The biggest self-imposed pressure for me was getting her convent school cadence, carriage and wit just right. So I knew that I had to reach for her depth of experience in living, above all else. ''I am way younger than Agatha in real life. Look's larger-than-life personality is practically the direct opposite of Agatha Mao, a timid, kind-hearted former convent school principal, but the 42-year-old still gamely took on the role. The pint-sized but animated actress Lydia Look cruises into a photo shoot with Life!, declaring: ''I know people always say 'Oh, it's great to be nominated' and all that, but I think that's bullcrap. Kaye's nod is also for a Pangdemonium production, as Little Voice, the young songbird who comes out of her shell, in The Rise & Fall of Little Voice, a 1992 play written by British dramatist Jim Cartwright. Lee is up for playing Helen, an overweight librarian in Pangdemonium's take on acclaimed playwright Neil LaBute's tragicomedy Fat Pig. Her two competitors, Frances Lee and Mina Kaye, are both debuting in this category. Los Angeles-based actress Lydia Look, who scored her first nod in the category in 2001, is up for her role as principal Agatha Mao in Checkpoint Theatre's drama The Way We Go. The benevolent headmistress of a convent school, a brassy woman looking for love and a shy singer with a tremendous voice - these are the characters played by the three Best Actress nominees at this year's M1-The Straits Times Life!
